Madhukali was established in 1983 in Bhopal in the memory of renowned musician & scholar late Pt. Lalmani Misra & Vrindgan (choral group).
The name of the organization was taken from one of the raga-s created by Pt. Lalmani Misra. Dedicated to preservation and promotion of Indian Classical Music as envisaged by Dr. Misra, one of the salient features of this organization has been the annual festival -- "Pt. Lalmani Misra Music Festival". The festival invites dedicated musicians, scholars, critics and aficinados every year on 11th August for two or three days.
Recognised as one of the most prestigeious festivals of India, audience and artistes look forward to this gathering where apart from listening to young artistes and masters, there are discussions related to contemporary state, scope and conerns of Indian Classical Music.The main aim of Madhukali is to promote understanding of music and developing taste along with providing encouragement to young artists. Almost any one included in who's who of Indian music has performed in Madhukali. The festival ususally held in Bhopal has sometimes been organised in other cities like Jalandhar, Indore etc.
